How you get to Sirmione from Milan

The route is always the same: the A4 Milan–Venice motorway to the Sirmione exit, the toll gate that serves Sirmione, Lugana and Rivoltella. From there it is a few minutes to the entrance of the peninsula.

From Linate we take the eastern ring road and join the A4 towards Venice — it is the closest airport to Sirmione. From Malpensa we cross the whole Milan area before joining the same motorway, which is why that trip runs about half an hour longer. From the city centre we start at your hotel and use the same road.

It is one journey with no changes. Your driver follows traffic in real time and picks the right moment to leave when your flight is late.

Getting into the old town: the ZTL

Sirmione is unusual. The historic centre sits on a narrow peninsula running out into the lake, and there is only one way in, next to the Scaliger Castle. That entrance is a limited traffic zone — a ZTL.

The Comune di Sirmione enforces the ZTL with automatic number plate reading: a vehicle may enter only if its plate was authorised before it passes through. There is no ticket you can buy on the spot. Permits come in two forms, annual and daily, and both have to be requested from the Comune in advance.

So we drop you at the entrance to the peninsula, a short walk from the centre. If your hotel is inside the ZTL and provides a permit, tell us when you book: with the plate authorised in advance we take you to the door.

What you will find in Sirmione

Scaliger Castle

The moated castle at the entrance to the peninsula. It is the landmark we use for your arrival — step out here and you are already at the edge of the old town.

Grotte di Catullo

The remains of a Roman villa on the tip of the peninsula, looking out over the lake. You reach them on foot from the centre.

Thermal springs

The hot springs Sirmione is known for, with several hotels on the peninsula connected to the spa complexes.

Connections and other lake towns

Sirmione has no railway station. The nearest is Desenzano del Garda–Sirmione, about 9 km away on the Milan–Venice line, and from there you still need a taxi or a bus to reach the centre. That is the main reason most of our guests take the transfer straight through.

Navigazione Lago di Garda ferries leave from Sirmione's harbour and connect the peninsula with Desenzano, Salò, Gardone Riviera and the upper lake. If a boat trip is part of your plan, we bring you and your luggage to the jetty.

We cover the other southern Garda towns on the same fixed-fare basis: Desenzano del Garda, Peschiera del Garda, and the rest of the shore under Milan to Lake Garda transfers.
