The route follows the A4 Milan–Venice motorway to the Peschiera exit, which also serves Lazise and Castelnuovo del Garda. It is the easternmost of the lower-lake exits: Peschiera sits on the Verona shore, which makes it the natural way in if you are heading for the lake's eastern side or for Gardaland.
From Linate this is the most direct run of any Milan airport — you join the A4 eastbound without crossing the city. From Malpensa you have to get around Milan first, and the journey time rises noticeably. Worth factoring in if you have an early flight or a late-evening arrival.
The lower Garda exits are periodically affected by closures tied to high-speed rail works, and Peschiera has been among those affected in the past. Your driver checks conditions before setting off and, if needed, comes in via Desenzano instead — your agreed fare stays the same.
Peschiera del Garda is the only town on Lake Garda inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The designation, granted in 2017, covers its Venetian fortification system; the serial site is listed as "Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th centuries: Stato da Terra – Western Stato da Mar".
It is a transnational site that also takes in Bergamo and Palmanova in Italy, Zadar and Šibenik in Croatia, and Kotor in Montenegro. Peschiera's old town sits inside the bastioned walls, ringed by the waters of the Mincio — striking to arrive into, but also tight and constrained for traffic.
For anyone arriving by transfer that translates into one practical point: the exact address of your accommodation matters more than the street name. Inside the walls, access is restricted and workable drop-off points are not everywhere.
A shuttle bus service runs from Peschiera station to the park. With a private transfer the intermediate leg disappears: you arrive directly at the entrance or the park hotel, luggage included — which tells most when you are travelling with children.
Peschiera del Garda station opened in 1854 and sits on the Milan–Venice line, about 124.9 km from Milano Centrale. It remains a fair alternative — but you still need onward transport from the platform to your accommodation.
Access to the historic centre is governed by a limited-traffic zone: drivers who are not exempt may only transit or park with a permit, assessed by the relevant office. Send us the address and we handle the authorisation.
The municipality does not publish consolidated ZTL hours or boundaries: for the rules in force see the Comune di Peschiera del Garda ZTL page or contact the Local Police (tel. +39 045 6444700).
Peschiera works as a genuine interchange for the lower lake: a station on the Milan–Venice line, an A4 motorway exit, a stop on the lake's boat network and Gardaland close by. It is one of the few points on Garda where rail, motorway and ferry all meet.
Boat connections to the rest of the lake leave from the port; twelve stops are served on the Lombardy shore, among them Desenzano, Sirmione, Salò, Gardone Riviera and Limone. Many guests take one transfer in and then move around by water for the rest of their stay.
